RRB Technician recruitment includes Technician Grade-I Signal and various Technician Grade-III categories.
Pay Level-5. Initial basic pay ₹29,200. This is the higher-level Technician post with prescribed technical qualification and B-1 medical standard.
Pay Level-2. Initial basic pay ₹19,900. Recruitment covers multiple technical categories across Railway departments.
One of the notified Technician Grade-III categories involving technical work related to Railway track machines.
Grade-III categories include Electrical/TRS, Electrical (GS), Electrical (TRD), EMU and other notified electrical posts.
Grade-III categories include Diesel Mechanical, Fitter, Carriage & Wagon, Machinist, Millwright and other notified technical posts.
Notified categories also include Welder, Carpenter, Painter, Trimmer, Crane Driver and other technical workshop posts.

Qualification depends on the post. Grade-I Signal requires prescribed B.Sc., Diploma or Engineering qualification, while Grade-III posts generally require Matriculation/SSLC plus relevant ITI or Course Completed Act Apprenticeship.
Indian citizens and other eligible categories specified under the RRB rules may apply, subject to the prescribed conditions.

18–30 Years for Technician Grade-III
Candidates must satisfy the prescribed Railway medical standard for the post opted for.
Candidates must possess one of the prescribed qualifications in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology or Instrumentation, such as a B.Sc. degree, a three-year Diploma in Engineering, or an Engineering Degree in the prescribed streams or combinations.
Candidates must generally possess Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from a recognized NCVT/SCVT institution in the prescribed trade, or Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade.
The prescribed educational or technical qualification must already have been obtained from a recognized institution. Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed qualification are not eligible. For Pay Level-2 Technician posts, a Diploma or Degree in Engineering is not accepted in lieu of ITI / Course Completed Act Apprenticeship unless specifically prescribed.
The prescribed age limit is 18–33 years for Technician Grade-I Signal and 18–30 years for Technician Grade-III.
Age relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories and other specified categories according to the applicable Government rules.

RRB Technician recruitment is conducted through a Computer Based Test, followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. A separate CBT is conducted for each Pay Level.
The CBT is an objective-type multiple-choice examination used for shortlisting candidates for the further stages.

The Technician CBT is conducted in computer-based mode.
Each CBT contains 100 objective-type questions.
The standard examination duration is 90 minutes.
1/3 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
Technician Grade-III candidates appear for a separate Computer Based Test of 100 questions.

A separate CBT is conducted for each Pay Level. Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of merit in the respective CBT.
Shortlisted candidates must produce original educational, age, category and other required documents.
Selected candidates must pass the prescribed Railway medical fitness standard for the opted post.

Reservation and applicable concessions are available to eligible categories such as SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen according to the applicable Government rules and the conditions prescribed in the RRB notification.
